  • Raghav Chadha has resigned from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), along with seven other Rajya Sabha members.
  • The merger involves more than two-thirds of AAP's 10 MPs in the Rajya Sabha, fulfilling the anti-defection law's requirements for a valid merger.
  • Chadha's departure follows his removal as AAP's Deputy Leader in the Rajya Sabha due to internal party conflicts.
  • He has been an advocate for public issues in Parliament, previously promoting initiatives like affordable airport food and addressing concerns for gig workers.

Raghav Chadha has quit Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), along with seven other Rajya Sabha members.

With this move, more than two-thirds of AAP’s 10 MPs in the Rajya Sabha are understood to be aligning with the BJP, meeting the two-thirds threshold required under the anti-defection law for a valid merger.

The development comes after Chadha was removed from his position as AAP’s Deputy Leader in the Rajya Sabha, due to internal differences within the party.

The shift marks a notable change in AAP’s presence in the Upper House.

Beyond party developments, Chadha has been known to raise public-focused issues in Parliament. He has previously pushed for initiatives like the Udaan Yatri Café, aimed at making airport food more affordable with low-cost options such as tea and snacks, and has also spoken about concerns related to gig workers, including those working with platforms like Swiggy and Zomato.
