As a part of its crackdown on non-compliant cable operators, the ministry of information and broadcasting (MIB) has cancelled the registrations of over 1000 Multi System Operators (MSOs) in India bringing the number of active registered MSOs to 787.
According to the latest data released by the ministry, as on November 30, the total number of registrations cancelled/rejected/surrendered due to non-compliance, stand at 1117, which is up from 1,072 in October and 1,068 in September.
Also, the ministry has cancelled/rejected the application of 114 MSOs for reasons, including late submissions, denial of security clearance by MHA and failure to submit missing documents on time, among others.
These cases highlight the Ministry’s intent to crack down on not just inactive or non-compliant operators but also those attempting to bypass regulatory procedures.
Industry experts suggest that this development could pave the way for more streamlined operations in the sector, potentially benefiting consumers with better service quality and accountability. At the same time, the move sends a clear message to operators about the importance of adhering to regulatory frameworks.
