S M Khan former  Indian Information Services (IIS) officer who served as Press Secretary to former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, passed away on Sunday in New Delhi at the age of 67. He breathed his last at a private hospital in Saket after a period of illness.

Khan, a 1982-batch IIS officer, had a distinguished career in public service. He is widely remembered for his role as the spokesperson for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) from 1989 to 2002, a period during which the agency handled numerous high-profile cases. He was known for his calm demeanor and effective communication during his time with the CBI.

He later served as Press Secretary to President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam from 2002 to 2007. Khan penned a book titled "The People's President," recounting his experiences working alongside the beloved former President.

His career also included roles such as Director General (News) at Doordarshan and Director of the Jamia Hamdard Residential Coaching Academy. He was also associated with the India Islamic and Cultural Centre in Delhi as vice president and trustee.

He is survived by his wife and three children. His burial will take place on Monday afternoon at his family graveyard in Khurja, Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh.
