This week in the news, the 11th season of the Indian Premier League continued to dominate headlines, as brands rushed to capitalize from the mega sporting event. Major players in the digital sphere such as Google, Facebook, Twitter and Amazon announced their Q1 financial results for 2018 this week, with Facebook seeing a steady increase in revenue and users despite the recent Cambridge Analytica data scandal.

Also this week, we examine if brands can take a political stand, as discussions around the shocking Kathua rape case continue to be coloured with a political tinge.

As the week came to a close, we saw Saurabh Doshi being appointed as Head of Entertainment Partnerships, Faceook- Asia Pacific, while Vaishali Verma was promoted to CEO of IPG Media Brands Initiative.
