In Vistara's words, "As the plane ascends, so do our dreams; let's glide towards the future, where the sky isn't the limit, but just the beginning."

Indian full-service airline Vistara bid an emotional farewell on Monday, November 11, as it took its final flights before officially merging with Air India.

The airline, a joint venture between Tata Group and Singapore Airlines, has long stood apart in an era of budget carriers, known for its commitment to service, comfort, and attention to detail. With its regal purple and golden livery, Vistara became a beloved brand for many travellers who cherished its hospitality and in-flight experience. Social media was flooded with heartfelt tributes, as loyal customers shared memories of journeys made memorable by Vistara's unique touch.

One frequent traveller, who flew on one of Vistara’s final flights from Delhi to Chennai, reflected on their years with the airline, expressing gratitude for "half a million miles" of exceptional service. "Thank you & goodbye @airvistara for becoming our best airline," they wrote. "Godspeed @airindia, you have big shoes to fill." Another user wore a custom-made Vistara T-shirt, while others brought posters to thank the crew, showcasing the bond that customers felt with the airline.

Vistara’s CEO, Vinod Kannan, took to social media as well, expressing gratitude to the airline’s team and the 75 million passengers who had flown with them. "Thank you, #teamVistara—past and present. Thank you to our ~75 million passengers for your support, patronage, and touching testimonials," he wrote. "Humbled and honoured to have been part of this team. Onwards and upwards towards our new chapter. The new feeling has a new home."

The merger with Air India, announced in November 2022, is Tata’s strategic move to challenge the dominant domestic market leader, IndiGo, which held a significant 63 per cent market share as of September 2024, according to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). This merger marks the beginning of a new journey for Tata in the aviation sector, blending the legacy of Air India with Vistara’s modern service approach.
