Former 'The Tribune' Editor-in-Chief Hari Jaisingh passes away

Veteran journalist and former Editor-in-Chief of The Tribune, Hari Jaisingh, has passed away. He was around 85 years old and had been battling health issues. 

Jaisingh breathed his last in Gurugram, where he had been residing. He is survived by his wife, a daughter, and a son.

Hari Jaisingh played a significant role during his nearly nine-year tenure as the editor of The Tribune. Born on March 29, 1940, in Karachi (then part of undivided India), he completed his education in Kolkata.

Beyond The Tribune, he held senior positions at leading newspapers such as The Indian Express and National Herald. Throughout his career, Jaisingh was known for his in-depth analysis of Indian politics and global affairs. He also contributed to international publications like Morning Telegraph and London’s The Guardian.

He authored two notable books- Pitfalls of Indian Democracy: Bapu to Anna and India after Indira: The Turbulent Years, 1984-1989, which reflect his deep insights into the political landscape of India.

Following his demise, many well-wishers and former colleagues expressed their condolences. 

Puran Chandra Joshi, who once served as his personal secretary, shared heartfelt words: “He was a hardworking and honest editor, a true gentleman, a thorough professional, a great leader, and a wonderful human being.”
