Bhupendra Chaubey pays tribute to the late Sankarshan Thakur

Senior journalist Bhupendra Chaubey expressed deep sorrow, remembering Sankarshan Thakur as a close friend and a sharp, principled voice in Indian journalism

Renowned journalist and The Telegraph’s Editor for National Affairs, Sankarshan Thakur, passed away on September 8, 2025. He was 63. Thakur had been battling serious health issues in recent weeks.

Journalist Bhupendra Chaubey paid tribute to Thakur on X (formely known as Twitter), expressing his sorrow at the loss of a close friend. “Devastated to hear the news of @SankarshanT passing away. A friend for many years, his wit/ knowledge and gravity will be remembered for many years.,” Chaubey wrote.

Chaubey also recalled one of Thakur’s most memorable headlines, written about Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar: " His most famous and my favourite headline will always be on @NitishKumar. A man who has conscience on call,” he added.

Thakur graduated with a degree in Political Science from Hindu College, University of Delhi. He began his journalistic journey in 1984 with Sunday magazine. Over the years, he held editorial positions at several prominent media organisations, including The Indian Express, Tehelka, and Third Eye Television, before rejoining The Telegraph in 2009 for a second tenure.

In addition to his work in journalism, Thakur was also a noted author. He penned The Making of Laloo Yadav, The Unmaking of Bihar. His second major work, Single Man: The Life and Times of Nitish Kumar of Bihar, offering a detailed biography of the current Chief Minister.
