As Siddhartha Laik celebrates his birthday, it is an apt moment to look back at a professional journey that runs parallel to the transformation of India’s entertainment and digital media landscape. Over the years, Laik has worked across print, broadcast and digital platforms, building experience that spans reporting, editing, newsroom leadership and entrepreneurship.
With a Master’s degree in English Literature from Fergusson College, Pune, and a Diploma in Journalism, Laik began his career in traditional newsrooms, working with organisations such as The Times of India, Mid Day, Magna Publishing, The Indian Express, Sakaal Times and Indiantelevision.com. Across these roles, he moved steadily from reporting assignments to editorial leadership positions, eventually serving in capacities that included Managing Editor and Head of Business.
In 2016, Laik founded IWMBuzz, earlier known as IndianWikiMedia, at a time when digital entertainment journalism in India was expanding rapidly. As Founder and Editor-in-Chief, he oversees editorial direction while also handling business strategy, team development and new vertical launches. The platform has since established a strong presence in the coverage of television, OTT and celebrity-driven content, positioning itself as a fast-moving digital newsroom in a competitive segment.
Colleagues often describe Laik as someone who values attitude over aptitude, a belief he frequently reiterates in conversations with young journalists. He has consistently advocated multitasking and self-development as essential tools for media professionals navigating an industry shaped by constant technological and audience shifts. His emphasis on adaptability reflects his own professional arc, moving across formats and roles as the media ecosystem evolved.
Beyond newsroom leadership, Laik has remained engaged with academic and industry platforms. He has appeared on television as a commentator, participated in reality television segments as a news contributor, and serves as visiting faculty at several media institutions. These engagements reflect his continuing interest in mentoring young professionals and sharing newsroom experience with aspiring journalists.
Away from work, Laik spends time reading and writing fiction, playing the guitar and following current affairs discussions. On his birthday, his trajectory offers a reminder of how persistence, adaptability and editorial discipline continue to shape long careers in a fast-changing media environment.
