OpenAI has announced the acquisition of Seattle-based product testing platform Statsig in an all-stock deal pegged at nearly $1.1 billion, based on OpenAI’s current $300 billion valuation. The development marks another strategic expansion for the AI giant, which has been actively diversifying both its hardware and software ecosystem.

As part of the agreement, Statsig founder and CEO Vijaye Raji will join OpenAI as Chief Technology Officer for Applications. In this newly created role, Raji will oversee product engineering for ChatGPT, Codex, and other core systems, strengthening the company’s focus on infrastructure and large-scale deployment of its AI products.

Statsig, which helps developers experiment with and roll out new features, had secured $100 million in funding earlier this year. Following the acquisition, the company’s workforce will be integrated into OpenAI but will continue operating independently out of its Seattle base.

This is OpenAI’s second major acquisition in 2025, following its $6.5 billion purchase of Jony Ive’s design venture, io Products, to accelerate AI hardware development. The company has seen rapid revenue growth, reporting a $12 billion annualised run rate by July, and is targeting $20 billion by year-end. OpenAI is also in the midst of a tender offer that could value the company at $500 billion.

The acquisition comes at a time when rival AI firms like Anthropic are also racing to secure multi-billion-dollar valuations and funding, intensifying the competition in the global AI landscape.
