At the India AI Impact Summit 2026 on Wednesday, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that India is sharply focused on developing artificial intelligence for real-world applications, with a special emphasis on edge AI, enterprise productivity and population-scale challenges such as healthcare, agriculture and climate change.
Highlighting India’s approach, Vaishnaw said the country is prioritising AI for solving real-world problems and building solutions that can work at scale. He added that the summit offers an opportunity to discuss key technical issues and shape the direction of AI development in the country.
The minister also urged experts and top minds present at the summit to bring forward “solid, concrete suggestions” on how to make AI safe. Calling AI a “great tool”, Vaishnaw stressed that it should ultimately be used for the benefit of humans and should not become something that distorts the balance.
Speaking at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 in Delhi, Vaishnaw said the AI Expo and the exhibition area witnessed a massive turnout, drawing around 2.5 lakh visitors, most of them young. He noted that the average age of attendees was below 30, calling it a strong indicator of India’s growing interest and participation in the AI ecosystem.
