The Bombay High Court has reportedly directed Maharashtra state to form a three-member committee to check on public fund misuse in government ads.
A news report said that the committee must be set up by December 14.
The order came in the wake of Maharashtra State’s inability to comply with a Supreme Court ruling that demanded strict advertising practices for governments to prevent the misuse of public funds to promote political parties.
A Bench reportedly led by Justice MS Sonak and Justice Jitendra Jain censured the government over the lack of a team to check such unethical practices.
The Court reportedly said that there was no justification for not having a committee for the same in Maharashtra state.
The HC also brought up SC’s decision in Common Cause vs. Union of India where it was held that government ad campaigns through print and electronic media for furthering motives of the political party is malafide, arbitrary and against Articles 14 and 21 of the Constitution of India.
