  • Speculation about Karan Bedi's future at Amazon MX Player is increasing following the integration of MX Player into Prime Video, with potential departure anticipated after his payout cycle ends in August.
  • The integration is part of Amazon's broader restructuring of its streaming services, consolidating free and subscription video businesses under a unified Prime Video structure.
  • Bedi, currently Director & Head of Amazon MX Player, has been instrumental in expanding the platform's free streaming business and is associated with Amazon’s AVOD growth in India.
  • Industry experts suggest that leadership roles may evolve as the integration progresses, reflecting a global trend of convergence between AVOD and SVOD models in the streaming market.

Industry conversations around Amazon MX Player head Karan Bedi’s future at the company are gaining momentum following the company’s decision to integrate MX Player into Prime Video. Multiple market sources indicate that Bedi may move on from the company after his payouts cycle completes, likely around August-end.

While Amazon or Bedi have not officially confirmed this, the speculation follows broader restructuring within Amazon’s streaming ecosystem. Last week, the company consolidated its free and subscription-led video businesses under a unified Prime Video structure. e4m was the first to report this.

What’s next for Karan Bedi and Amogh Dusad after Prime Video & MX Player’s integration?

Industry executives tracking the development say the integration naturally raises questions about leadership mandates across overlapping business, content and monetisation functions.

Notably, Amazon acquired some of MX Player’s assets from the Times Group over two years ago. Bedi currently serves as Director & Head of Amazon MX Player and has been closely associated with Amazon’s AVOD expansion in India. Prior to Amazon’s acquisition of select MX Player assets and the subsequent merger with miniTV, Bedi played a pivotal role in scaling MX Player’s free streaming business over several years.

“Whenever streaming platforms move from parallel brands to a single integrated ecosystem, leadership structures tend to evolve alongside the business,” said a senior media executive requesting anonymity. “The focus internally shifts from managing separate platforms to driving one unified consumer and advertising proposition.”

Amazon announced the integration of MX Player into Prime Video earlier this week, with Gaurav Gandhi continuing to lead the combined streaming business.

The move is widely interpreted as part of Amazon’s larger effort to simplify its video ecosystem while strengthening its advertising-led streaming play. Over the past two years, Amazon MX Player built significant reach through free originals, dubbed international content, reality formats and mobile-first programming, complementing Prime Video’s premium subscription-led offering.

Sources within the media industry suggest that as the integration deepens, the company may gradually recalibrate leadership responsibilities across the combined platform.

“There is increasing convergence globally between AVOD and SVOD models, and companies are reorganising accordingly,” another industry executive noted. “India is now seeing a similar transition play out.”

Separately, market speculation has also linked Bedi’s name to conversations in the broader entertainment ecosystem, although no developments have been officially confirmed so far.

Both Bedi and Amazon did not respond to e4m’s queries on leadership-related speculation till the time of publishing.
