White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt is set to step down from her position in the Donald Trump administration at the end of this month, saying she wants to devote more time to her family. At 28, Leavitt is the youngest person to have served as White House press secretary.

US President Donald Trump was the first to disclose her departure, describing Leavitt as “a real leader” in his administration. He also said she would continue to work with him as a senior adviser after leaving the press secretary post.

“Our wonderful White House Press Secretary, and one of my most trusted aides, Karoline Leavitt, will be departing her role at the end of the month so she can spend more time with her beautiful young children and family, a decision I totally understand and respect! Karoline will now be one of my top outside advisors, and an influential voice within the Republican Party, as we work to defy History, and conclusively win the Midterm Elections,” Trump announced on his social media platform.

Leavitt previously worked as a press aide during Trump’s first term. She returned to the White House in his second administration and took over as press secretary, becoming the youngest person ever to hold the position.
