Praveen Iyer, co-founder of Akasa Air, has resigned from his role with immediate effect, the airline confirmed on Monday. His departure comes as the airline continues to grow its presence in India’s competitive low-cost aviation sector.

Iyer was part of the founding team when Akasa Air was launched in 2021. From the beginning, he played a key role in building the airline’s operational and commercial structure. He helped secure regulatory approvals, set up important internal systems, and created partnerships related to aircraft acquisition, airport infrastructure, and service operations.

During his time with the airline, Akasa Air expanded its domestic network to more than 20 cities and added several aircraft to its fleet. Iyer was closely involved in route planning, compliance with aviation regulations, recruitment, and coordination with government authorities. His efforts ensured that the airline maintained strong safety and operational standards while scaling up its services.

Commenting on his contribution, Vinay Dube, Founder and CEO of Akasa Air, said that Iyer played an important role in turning the airline’s vision into reality. He added that Iyer helped build a strong commercial foundation, developed future leaders within the company, and created partnerships that continue to support network growth and revenue generation. Dube expressed gratitude for his dedication and wished him success in the future.

In a related update, the airline announced that Anand Srinivasan, Co-Founder and Chief Information Officer, will take over as Chief Commercial Officer. Dube described this leadership change as a natural step forward and highlighted the strong talent pool within the organisation.
