Moviegoers in Karnataka may soon pay no more than Rs 200 for a cinema ticket, regardless of the theatre, film language or location. The move follows CM Siddaramaiah’s earlier announcement during the 2025–26 state budget, where he promised action on soaring ticket prices.
The proposal comes through a draft amendment to the Karnataka Cinemas (Regulation) Rules, 2014, where Rule 55 has been updated to include a new sub-rule capping ticket prices at Rs 200 per show.
This includes all charges, such as entertainment tax, and applies to all theatres, from single screens to luxury multiplexes, and to films in any language.
The Home Department, which issued the draft, has invited objections and suggestions from the public within 15 days. If approved, the cap will be formalised under the Karnataka Cinemas (Regulation) (Amendment) Rules, 2025.
