While presenting the 2025-26 budget, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday announced three key updates for the state’s media and entertainment industry. These include capping the prices of movie tickets, launching a state-run OTT platform and developing a Film City in Mysuru.

Price cap on movie tickets: All cinema halls in Karnataka will now have ticket prices capped at Rs 200, potentially making movie-going more affordable for residents. The price ceiling would make cinema more accessible to the general public and open new footfall-dependent revenue streams for theatre owners and distributors.

State-run OTT platform: Karnataka will launch its own OTT platform dedicated to Kannada films, creating a new digital distribution channel for local content. It is expected to provide a new avenue for local filmmakers to showcase their content and reach wider audiences.

Mysuru Film City: A Film City in Mysuru has been announced with a plan to be completed within three years to boost local film production infrastructure and attract more film productions.

These measures collectively represent a significant intervention in Karnataka’s media and entertainment sector, with the state government taking a more active role in supporting the stakeholders and citizens.
