Former Asian Games gold medallist and Indian shooting coach Jaspal Rana has passed away at 49. According to media reports, he died at Max Hospital in Delhi following recent stent surgery, after being admitted with chest pain and related complications.
Rana had reportedly felt unwell during the ISSF World Cup in Munich and again during his return journey to India, after which he was hospitalised on arrival.
A decorated Indian shooter, Rana won medals at the Asian Games and Commonwealth Games and later became a prominent coach. He also served as Manu Bhaker’s coach during her successful run at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Rana was honoured with the Arjuna Award in 1994 and the Padma Shri in 1997 for his contribution to Indian shooting.
