Underscoring the importance of the ongoing transition in media landscape, Union Minister for Railways, Information and Broadcasting, and Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, on Thursday said the pressing need is to redefine traditional media's role, ensure fair compensation, address copyright challenges, and uphold the importance of editorially vetted content.
In his keynote address at the DNPA Conclave 2025: Media Transformations in the AI Age, Vaishnaw emphasized on the government's commitment to supporting this transition, recognizing the media's vital role and the great responsibility it carries in shaping the nation's discourse.
“Today, the world of media is going through a major transition. The traditional media, which was a medium of the newspaper, TV was a very big medium, today digital media has emerged in a very big way. In many places, especially in the younger generations, have completely shifted from traditional media to digital media. In such a situation, how do we see our role in traditional media? How do we change ourselves with this change? How do we move forward while protecting the employment and employment associated with the world of media?
“How do we solve the issues of copyright? How do we get fair compensation for traditional media? How do we work on it? The importance of the producers and content creators, and especially the content that comes after the editorial check, how to give importance to it, how to get that importance, all these issues should be discussed in detail in this conference of the DNPA so that you get a clear policy direction and policy recommendation,” he said in his keynote address through a recorded video message,” he said.
In his video message he said, “In this transition, we are ready to do whatever help you need from the government. The whole country sees the media with great responsibility. And the transition in the media, how to make it smooth at the same time, how to make this transition without disruption, such suggestions came from you.”
