The parliamentary committee on 'Communications and Information Technology' is scheduled to take place on February 13 chaired by Nishikant Dubey. The committee will meet to collect oral evidence of the representatives of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) and the Ministry of Communications (Department of Posts) on Demands for Grants (2024-25).

On February 14, the committee will take oral evidence for the same from the representatives of Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

The Standing Committee on Communications and Information Technology is one of 24 committees that help oversee government work. It was formed under Rule 331C of the Lok Sabha’s rules. It reviews matters related to the Ministry of Communications, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB).

The "demands for grant" for the MIB refer to the budget requested by the ministry. This includes plans to regulate online ads, influencer marketing, and digital content.

For 2024-25, the MIB's budget is set at Rs 4,342.55 crore, which is Rs 349.45 crore less than the Rs 4,692 crore allocated in 2023-24, according to the last parliamentary report.
