The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) has reportedly told the committed Parliamentary Standing Committee on Communications and Information Technology that it will submit a draft proposal for amendments to key media laws in next 15 days.
According to media reports, this was conveyed by the MIB to the committee led by Nishikant Dubey, during a meeting on Friday.
The proposed revisions aim to strengthen media regulations, tackling concerns such as fake news, paid news, media sensationalism, and challenges faced by journalists, according to insiders.
During the session, the committee is said to have assessed the enforcement of various media-related laws, including the Press and Registration of Periodicals (PRP) Act 2023, the Cinematograph (Amendment) Act 2023, the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act 1995, and the Prasar Bharati (Broadcasting Corporation of India) Act 1990.
