Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, while presenting the Union Budget for 2026–27, announced a series of amendments to rules and regulations under the Customs Act, 1962, with a clear focus on easing cross-border trade and improving efficiencies for the fast-growing e-commerce ecosystem.
As part of the proposals, the minister mentioned that in a major relief for exporters, the cap on the value of goods exported through courier channels will be removed, enabling e-commerce players and small exporters to scale cross-border shipments.
The measures are expected to lower compliance friction, speed up deliveries and strengthen India’s position as a global e-commerce export hub.
