The legendary Ogilvy India veteran, whose creative genius shaped campaigns from Fevicol to Modi’s 2014 election slogan, leaves behind a legacy that defined modern Indian advertising and political branding.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday paid tribute to advertising legend Piyush Pandey, whose passing marks the end of an era for Indian creative advertising.

“Shri Piyush Pandey Ji was admired for his creativity. He made a monumental contribution to the world of advertising and communications. I will fondly cherish our interactions over the years. Saddened by his passing away. My thoughts are with his family and admirers. Om Shanti,” the Prime Minister wrote on X.

Pandey played an important role in shaping BJP's 2014 election campaign.

With a signature ability to blend colloquial Hindi, cultural insight and performance-driven messaging, Pandey built a portfolio of memorable ad campaigns: from Airtel’s “Har Ek Friend Zaroori Hota Hai” to Fevicol’s “Todo Nahi Jodo”. His role as Executive Chairman & Chief Creative Officer of Ogilvy India and South Asia turned him into a mentor of India’s next generation of advertising professionals.

Widely described as an Indian advertising legend and Ogilvy India veteran, Piyush Pandey’s name remains synonymous with creative excellence and the evolution of modern Indian advertising.

Industry analysts say the campaign bridged traditional mass media, such as TV commercials and print ads with digital-first formats like social media reels and YouTube campaigns, reinforcing the growing importance of integrated marketing in India.Piyush Pandey’s legacy is a roadmap for how brands and agencies can stay culturally relevant, emotionally resonant and digitally savvy. He showed that in India’s fast-evolving media ecosystem, it is possible to deliver both scale and depth.

Meanwhile, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman too paid her tributes.

"Saddened to hear of the passing of Shri Piyush Pandey. A titan and legend of Indian advertising, he transformed communication by bringing everyday idioms, earthy humor, and genuine warmth into it. Have had opportunities to interact with him on various occasions. Heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and the entire creative fraternity. His legacy will continue to inspire generations," she wrote on X.
BJP leader Smriti Irani remembered Pandey as one of India’s finest storytellers.
"Piyush Pandey wasn’t just an ad man — he was one of India’s finest storytellers . He taught us that emotion is the truest language of creativity. His words made brands human, and ideas immortal. Farewell to a legend who made us feel, think, and smile," she posted on X.
