Rajiv Dubey, Vice President – Head of Media at Dabur India Limited, has paid tribute to advertising legend Piyush Pandey. Dubey reflected on Pandey’s unparalleled ability to connect with audiences, turning everyday moments into timeless narratives that shaped Indian advertising and inspired generations of creatives.

Indian advertising has lost its storyteller-in-chief.

With Piyush Pandey’s passing, an era ends; one that taught brands to speak in an Indian voice, feel Indian emotions, and tell Indian stories with pride.

As an industry colleague who watched his journey with admiration and respect, I often marvelled at how effortlessly he turned the ordinary into the unforgettable. He brought authenticity into the heart of creativity, making simplicity profound, humour humane, and emotion timeless.

For Piyush, advertising was never about selling. It was about connecting.

He made Fevicol more than glue; he made it a symbol of unbreakable bonds.

He made Cadbury Dairy Milk more than chocolate; he made it a celebration of uninhibited joy.

He made Asian Paints more than colour; he made it about the story every home tells.

In an industry that often chases cleverness, Piyush reminded us that truth is the greatest differentiator. His genius lay not in complexity but in clarity, in saying what people felt but never said.

Even for those of us who never had the privilege of working directly with him, his influence was unmistakable. Every campaign that sought to be “authentic yet creative,” every brief that aimed to “speak from the heart,” had an invisible trace of his philosophy.

He was Indian advertising’s conscience. He gave us the courage to celebrate our own idioms, humour and rootedness. In doing so, he gave Indian brands a global confidence without ever letting them lose their soul.

Today, as colleagues and admirers, we mourn a legend, but more importantly, we celebrate a man who made us believe that great advertising doesn’t shout, it speaks; it doesn’t sell, it stays.

Rest in peace, Piyush.

Your words, your wit and your wisdom will continue to inspire generations of storytellers and remind us that the best ideas, like the strongest bonds, never come unstuck.

Har ghar kuch kehta hai… and yours will always speak of creativity, courage and heart.
