Warner Chappell Music (WCM), the publishing division of Warner Music Group (WMG), has officially launched direct operations in India. Earlier, the company operated in the country through a sub-publishing model, but it will now have a full-fledged local presence to support Indian songwriters and creators more closely.

As part of this expansion, Jay Mehta has been given additional responsibility to lead the new publishing division. Mehta, who has headed Warner Music India since 2020, will now oversee both recorded music and publishing operations across India and nearby South Asian markets.

The company said this integrated structure will help provide creators with better support across music recordings and songwriting, while also connecting them to Warner’s global creative and rights management network.

Jay Mehta said India is home to some of the world’s most talented songwriters who are constantly exploring new sounds and genres. He added that Warner Chappell’s direct presence in India will help bridge the gap between local talent and international opportunities by giving creators access to global resources and a wider audience.

Guy Moot and Carianne Marshall said Indian songwriters are increasingly gaining recognition around the world. They added that the company’s aim is not only to expand its business in India, but also to build a stronger publishing ecosystem that protects creators’ work and helps them earn fair recognition globally.

Robert Kyncl said India remains an important market in WMG’s long-term global growth plans. He added that combining publishing and recorded music operations under Jay Mehta’s leadership will help create a stronger platform for artists, songwriters and music fans across the region.
