Press Trust of India (PTI) has appointed Amanpreet Singh as Managing Editor, effective January 1, 2026, as part of a broader newsroom restructuring.
The appointment was announced by PTI CEO and Editor-in-Chief Vijay Joshi in an internal email to staff on New Year’s Eve. Joshi said the changes, which have been in the works for the past six months, are being implemented to reinforce leadership across PTI’s text and photo teams.
Singh joins PTI from Hindustan Times, where he served as Deputy Executive Editor overseeing the daily edition. A Ramnath Goenka Award winner, Singh is also a lawyer, with professional interests spanning macroeconomics, law, data-driven reporting and long-form journalism.
In his message, Joshi praised PTI’s newsroom for its performance in 2025, noting that the team delivered accurate, balanced and credible journalism even under challenging circumstances.
As part of the leadership transition, senior editor Sudhakar Nair will retire on March 31, 2026. Joshi described Nair as the backbone of PTI’s journalism and said he will continue in his role for the time being, supporting Singh as he familiarises himself with the organisation, its work culture and editorial processes.
Nair began his career at PTI in 1979 as a trainee sub-editor in New Delhi and has spent nearly 47 years with the organisation. Over his career, he has contributed to thousands of major stories on national and state politics and served as PTI’s correspondent in Germany from 1998 to 2001.
