Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) has seen a notable churn in its senior leadership ranks over the past year, with several long-serving executives moving on from key roles.

From business and content heads to leaders in finance, legal, technology, ad sales, and corporate communications, the network has witnessed a series of high-profile exits.

While each departure comes with its own reason, ranging from retirements to entrepreneurial pursuits, the overall trend marks a significant reshaping of the company’s leadership structure at a time when the broadcast industry itself is undergoing rapid change.

NP Singh steps down as MD-CEO

In May 2024, NP Singh, the long-serving MD and CEO of SPNI, announced his decision to transition into an advisory role. His departure came a month after he publicly acknowledged the tough road ahead for SPNI in FY2025. Singh left behind a legacy of 25 years at the company, during which he played an instrumental role in transforming SPNI into a multi-platform entertainment powerhouse.

Starting as CFO in 1999, Singh steadily rose through the ranks, becoming COO and later CEO in 2014. Under his leadership, SPNI launched its OTT platform SonyLIV in 2013 and pursued bold strategic moves such as the attempted merger with Zee Entertainment. An alumnus of the Delhi School of Economics, Singh's four-decade-long corporate journey has left an indelible mark on Indian media.

Neeraj Vyas: A new chapter at Bhanushali Studios

Neeraj Vyas, who exited SPNI in August 2024 after nearly three decades, was appointed CEO of Bhanushali Studios in February 2025. Known for his leadership of Sony's Hindi entertainment and movie cluster—Sony Entertainment Television, Sony SAB, Sony PAL, and Sony MAX—Vyas was pivotal in shaping the content strategy across the network’s key GECs.

Having started with Sony in 1995, he held influential roles in sales, programming, and business operations. His contribution to SPNI’s genre leadership and brand identity remains significant.

Ashok Nambissan and Nitin Nadkarni: Key retirements

In July 2024, SPNI announced the retirement of two senior leaders effective August 31, 2024—General Counsel Ashok Nambissan and CFO Nitin Nadkarni.

Nitin Nadkarni, who joined SPNI in 2005, wore multiple hats—CFO, Head of Broadcast Operations and Network Engineering, and Head of Commercial. His stewardship over nearly two decades ensured financial stability, innovation in operational processes, and progress on SPNI’s sustainability goals. His commitment to transparency and financial excellence became benchmarks within the organisation.

Ashok Nambissan, part of SPNI since 2007, played a crucial role in navigating legal, regulatory, and compliance frameworks. Notably, he led SPNI through significant legal negotiations, including the acquisition of Ten Sports and the IPL rights renegotiation. As the company’s Ombudsperson, he championed ethical conduct and governance.

Raj Mohan Srinivasan: Tech strategist moves on

In July 2024, Raj Mohan Srinivasan, SPNI’s Chief Information Officer, stepped down from his role. A tech visionary with over 30 years of global experience, Raj was central to SPNI’s digital transformation and IT strategy. Prior to SPNI, he had held senior roles at IBM, Oracle, and other global firms. His expertise in cognitive computing, analytics, and enterprise tech platforms greatly enhanced SPNI’s digital architecture.

Leena Lele Dutta’s exit

Leena Lele Dutta, Executive Vice President & Business Head of Sony Pictures Networks India’s kids’ business, stepped down in October 2024 after spearheading Sony YAY! since its launch in 2017. With over two decades in the M&E industry, she has been credited with scaling the kids’ portfolio, building new IPs, and strengthening content creation, distribution, and monetisation for the network’s animation and kids division.

Dutta began her career with Sony Entertainment Television in 1995 and went on to hold leadership positions at MTV Networks India, Ten Sports, and Sony Pictures Television before rejoining SPNI in 2016. Known for her strategic growth initiatives and deep expertise in content distribution, she played a pivotal role in shaping Sony’s kids’ entertainment business, while also overseeing the animation studio and IP creation efforts.

Sandeep Mehrotra: Sales leader bows out

In July 2025, Sandeep Mehrotra, Executive Vice President of Sales, stepped down, reportedly due to health reasons. With over 25 years at SPNI, Mehrotra was the backbone of the company’s advertising revenue function. His client-first approach, focus on repeat business, and adaptability to evolving market conditions made him a trusted partner for brands and agencies alike. His earlier experience at Bennett Coleman & Co. also shaped his strategic vision and execution prowess.

Humsa Dhir: Communications Head ends decade-long tenure

Humsa Dhir, Senior Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications, also exited SPNI this year after a 10-year stint. Known for her reputation management and stakeholder engagement expertise, Dhir was instrumental in shaping SPNI’s external narrative and internal culture. Her strategic leadership in communications, both during times of growth and transformation, played a vital role in maintaining the company’s brand integrity.

The departure of several senior leaders in the span of a single year signifies more than routine attrition; it marks a generational shift in SPNI's leadership. With the exit of veterans who collectively shaped the company’s direction over decades, SPNI stands at an inflection point as it navigates industry disruptions, digital evolution, and changing viewer habits.
