Senior journalist Tariq Ahmad Bhat, who served as the Jammu & Kashmir Bureau Head of The Week magazine, passed away on Monday following a cardiac arrest. He was 54.
Family members said Bhat complained of chest pain at his residence in Srinagar and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Bhat was one of the most respected voices in Kashmir’s media fraternity, known for his deep understanding of the region’s politics and society. Over the past three decades, he contributed to several national and local publications and was widely admired for his balanced reporting and mentoring of young journalists.
His sudden demise has been widely mourned across the media community, with colleagues remembering him as a calm, thoughtful journalist who covered some of the Valley’s most critical events with integrity and insight.
