According to reports, Sony Pictures Network's video-on-demand service, SonyLIV has crossed 100 million downloads on Google Play Store, making it the third Indian video-streaming app after Hotstar and JioTV to reach this mark. The OTT platform's app downloads currently stand at 109 million.

It has been reported that ZEE5 has passed 50 million downloads, while other Indian OTT platforms such as ALTBalaji, Eros Now, and SunNXT have garnered over 10 million downloads each. Global streaming platforms, Netflix and Amazon Prime Video stand at 500 million and 100 million respectively.

SonyLIV’s monthly active users doubled after it introduced streaming of India's cricket matches. Owning the rights to several sports leagues, SonyLIV acquired the streaming rights of India’s cricket tours to Australia, England and South Africa, as well as to the FIFA World Cup in Russia. It also had rights to the Australian Open, NBA, Commonwealth Games, MotoGP, La Liga, and UEFA. The platform will also stream the upcoming Indian cricket team's tour of the West Indies. The OTT platform reportedly witnessed a 3X increase in monthly active users in 2019, recording 100 downloads per minute. Users' total time spent has grown by 7X.

SonyLIV also witnessed a whopping 250 per cent growth in viewership, 475 percent in hours spent, and 69 percent in average time spent during the 2018 India vs South Africa series.

The platform offers more than 4,000 hours of content across various genres in multiple languages including English, Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, Tamil, and Telugu.

Apart from sports, SonyLIV also owns the rights to an array of popular English content and award-winning shows including The Handmaid’s Tale, The Good Doctor, Mr. Mercedes, Damages, and Counterpart.

SonyLIV aims to reach another 50 million users through its recently launched AR-enabled gaming platform.
