Adar Poonawalla, CEO of Serum Institute of India and Chairman of Poonawalla Fincorp, has expressed interest in making a bid for Indian Premier League franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
“Over the next few months, will be putting in a strong and competitive bid for RCB, one of the best teams in the IPL,” Poonawalla has posted on X. Earlier last October, he had hinted at the bid, saying RCB was “a great team at the right price”.
Sources close to developments around RCB’s potential sale had told e4m late last year that the names such as Adani Group and Adar Poonawalla of the Serum Institute have turned out to be the potential bidders.
In November 2025, it was reported that RCB could be headed for an ownership shake-up. Diageo, through its Indian subsidiary United Spirits Ltd (USL), formally announced a strategic review of its investment in Royal Challengers Sports Pvt Ltd (RCSPL), the entity that owns both the IPL and WPL RCB teams.
According to a report in November, the IPL’s enterprise value had climbed 12.9% to $18.5 billion, while its standalone brand value had risen 13.8% year-on-year to $3.9 billion.
