Rajasthan Royals sold to Kal Somani-led consortium in Rs 15,000 crore deal

According to media reports, a consortium led by US-based entrepreneur Kal Somani has emerged as the winning bidder for Rajasthan Royals, acquiring 100 per cent of the franchise at a reported valuation of $1.63 billion (around Rs 15,286 crore).
The transaction is reported to be the most expensive franchise deal to date, making Rajasthan Royals the highest-valued team in its category.
According to reports, the change in ownership is expected to come into effect after the 2026 season of the Indian Premier League.
Somani, who founded IntraEdge, Academian and Truyo.AI, is backed by US investors including Rob Walton of the Walmart family and the Hamp family, owners of the NFL’s Detroit Lions. Sheila Ford Hamp, part of the group, also belongs to the Ford family of Ford Motor Company.
