Comedian Samay Raina has announced his return with a new comedy special titled Still Alive, marking his first major project since the controversy surrounding his YouTube show India’s Got Latent.

In the trailer shared by Raina, he takes viewers through the dramatic journey of his popular YouTube show India’s Got Latent, from its explosive launch in June 2024 to its sudden shutdown in February 2025 following a major controversy. The clip includes glimpses of the massive success the show achieved, the intense backlash it faced, before ending with a simple message signalling his return: “Let’s talk now…”

This comeback comes after Raina successfully completed a global stand-up tour, which included a sold-out performance at New York’s Madison Square Garden.

The controversy

India’s Got Latent, a talent-based comedy show hosted by Raina, was taken down after an episode featuring Ranveer Allahbadia triggered widespread backlash.

A remark made during the episode drew criticism across social media and beyond, leading to multiple FIRs being filed against everyone involved, including Raina, Allahbadia, Ashish Chanchlani and Apoorva Mukhija.

In response, Raina removed all episodes of the show and issued an apology, stating that he regretted the impact of the content.

Social Media Reactions

The announcement has been warmly received by fans and several fellow creators. Ashish Chanchlani, who was also involved in the original controversy, showed his support by commenting directly on Raina’s Instagram post: “Epic. Love you.”

Others referenced the gap since the controversy, with users writing, “It’s been a long time coming,” and “Finally, he’s back.” Some also pointed to the tone of the teaser, noting, “This feels different, more personal,” reflecting how the comeback is being perceived not just as a new release, but as a continuation of a larger narrative.

Another user said, “Samay Ka Samay Ane Wala Hai Bach Ke Raina.”

‘Still Alive’

Raina’s return with Still Alive goes beyond just a new release as it brings back a creator whose work had been abruptly paused at the peak of its reach. The special arrives with both curiosity and context, shaped as much by what happened over the past year as by what he chooses to say next. As audiences tune in, the focus is likely to be not just on the comedy, but on how the comeback is framed and received.
