India is on the track to become the youngest country in the world. According to an estimate, the country today has around 440 million millennials, and they comprise nearly half of the working age population. A report suggests that millennials in India are expected to spend $330 billion annually by 2020.

This generation of millennials is quite tech-savvy and lives its life online. These digital natives, with big spending power and rapid digitalization, are driving a shift in the consumption basket of the market. More than 80 per cent of millennials have a 3G/4G connection as compared to 45 per cent of internet users across India. Also, according to an estimate, 47 per cent of millennials prefer to shop online than offline. And when it comes to online shopping, millennials are characterized by their regular & frequent usage of internet on mobile phones and their search for pocket-friendly deals.

Millennials prefer online shopping for various reasons. Some of the top factors being: Convenience of buying anywhere and anytime, access to products and brands that are not available offline, option to make frequent purchases, availability of diverse & wide variety, and high discounts & lower prices. Also, millennials place significant emphasis on the value from a product or service. Their decision to buy a product is guided by the value for the money that they are spending. Monthly, a millennial spends 23 per cent of his/her expense on personal grooming and discretionary/lifestyle products.

Keeping in mind the shopping needs of this huge chunk of India’s population, Graphene Campus Connect has launched an app named Campus Bazaar. It is an easy to use group buying app. The app acts as an agent between consumers and brands.

Explaining how the app works, Amol Mohandas, Executive Vice President, Graphene Media, said, “Most online shopping brands put their products on sale seasonally and at their own desired rates. Campus Bazaar helps millennials get the best deals from brands that they want and not the deals that are pushed on to them. Consumers get the best offers from brands on the basis of demand aggregation.”

Campus Bazaar specifically targets young millennials such as college students since they are a critical market for online shopping.

According to the company, some of the popular product categories on the app are electronics (mobile phones, mobile phone accessories, laptops, computer peripherals); scientific calculators; lifestyle products (clothing, bags, shoes, accessories); entertainment (events, movies, concerts, gigs), gifting (teddy bears, gift cards, chocolates, flowers, cakes), bikes, helmets, bicycles, etc.

Graphene Campus Connect, a subsidiary of Graphene Media, is an audience company connecting millennials to brands powered by cutting-edge mediatech solutions. It operates in two verticals-- Million Minds and Campus Connect-- that revolve around knowledge and audience insights and engagement respectively. With an outreach of more than 2,000 campuses and 6 million students across 90 cities, Graphene Campus Connect has its feet firmly set in the youth ecosystem.
