- Nihalani began his film career in 1982 with the production of "Haathkadi" and is known for introducing actor Govinda in his 1986 film "Ilzaam."

Pahlaj Nihalani, veteran film producer and former Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) chairperson, passed away on 4 June 2026. He was 76.
Reports suggest he had been unwell for some time due to liver cirrhosis and had been undergoing treatment. He is also reported to have been hospitalised for nearly a month prior to his passing.
Nihalani began his career as a producer in 1982 with Haathkadi. This was followed by Aandhi-Toofan in 1985 and Ilzaam in 1986, which introduced Govinda as an actor.
He served as CBFC chairman under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and led the Association of Pictures and TV Programme Producers for 29 years, stepping down in 2009.
