Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has recently taken decisive action against employees who leaked confidential information to the press.

The tech giant has terminated approximately 20 staff members for sharing sensitive company data externally, with more dismissals expected.

Meta spokesperson Dave Arnold stated that the company informs employees upon joining, and periodically reminds them that leaking internal information is against company policies. The recent investigation leading to these terminations comes amid a surge in leaked information about unannounced product plans and internal meetings.

This crackdown follows a string of leaks, including details from a recent all-hands meeting led by CEO Mark Zuckerberg. In response, Meta has altered the structure of its meetings, removing features that allowed employees to vote on questions for Zuckerberg and make side comments during live presentations.

The company's leadership has expressed frustration with the leaks. Zuckerberg lamented in a January meeting that everything he says gets leaked, while CTO Andrew Bosworth noted in February that the company was making progress in catching those responsible.

These firings occur against a backdrop of significant changes at Meta, including relaxed content moderation rules, reduced diversity initiatives, and recent performance-based layoffs. The company's handling of these issues has sparked debate about its evolving corporate culture and priorities.
