India’s digital curiosity in 2025 reflected a year shaped by sport, technology, faith, entertainment and real-time news consumption. According to Google’s India Year in Search 2025, the most searched topics reveal not only trending moments, but also the collective priorities and concerns of Indians navigating a fast-moving world.

Cricket topped the list. The Indian Premier League (IPL) emerged as the most searched topic overall, underscoring the tournament’s unparalleled appeal across age groups and regions. Interest in major international competitions and domestic fixtures further highlighted sport’s role as a unifying cultural force, driving both live engagement and second-screen behaviour.

Beyond sport, 2025 saw a sharp rise in searches related to artificial intelligence. Tools such as Google Gemini ranked among the top overall searches, alongside X’s Grok, reflecting growing public awareness and everyday experimentation with AI. Trends extended beyond platforms, with creative prompts such as the “Nano Banana” challenge gaining traction as users explored image generation and text-based creativity.

News and real-world events also shaped search behaviour. “Maha Kumbh” emerged as one of the most searched topics in news and travel, while “Operation Sindoor” featured prominently in national news cycles. Utility searches such as “earthquake near me” topped their category, demonstrating how Search is increasingly relied upon during emergencies and moments of uncertainty.

Entertainment searches reflected both mainstream and emerging trends. Breakout names such as Aneet Padda and Ahaan Panday rose in popularity following their roles in the film Saiyaara, while global shows continued to trend. Collectibles and viral internet phenomena, including Labubu toys and the 67 meme formats, illustrated how quickly niche trends can capture mass attention. One of the most searched podcast moments was Bryan Johnson’s appearance on Nikhil Kamath’s podcast, which sparked discussions around lifestyle choices and environmental concerns.

People searches rounded out the year, with Vaibhav Suryavanshi emerging as the most searched personality of 2025, largely driven by his presence in cricket-related conversations. Other notable figures included astronaut Sunita Williams, regional music icon Zubeen Garg, and Bollywood actor Dharmendra, reflecting interest across sports, science, and culture.

The data underscores a clear takeaway: search trends are no longer simply about curiosity. They mirror how Indians consume information, respond to events in real time, and adapt to emerging technologies. In 2025, what India searched for was closely tied to how the country lived, watched, learned, and participated in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
