Google has moved swiftly to shut down speculation that it intends to introduce advertisements inside the Gemini app next year, calling the claims inaccurate and unsupported. The clarification follows reports suggesting that the company was preparing to test in-app ads with select partners, prompting questions about whether Google’s flagship AI product would soon adopt a monetisation model similar to its core platforms.
Responding to the rumours, Dan Taylor, Google’s Vice President for Global Ads, noted on X that assertions about the company planning to bring ads to the Gemini app were incorrect. He emphasised that the app does not carry ads and that Google has no current plans to alter this. His remarks were amplified by Google’s AdLiaison account, which reiterated that the company issued the clarification to address concerns among users who had seen the circulating reports.
According to the company, ads continue to appear only in AI Overviews in the US, with expansion underway across more English-speaking regions, and testing remains limited to AI Mode within Search.
The clarification comes at a time when Gemini’s adoption is scaling rapidly. During its Q3 2025 earnings update, Google reported that the Gemini app had crossed 650 million monthly active users worldwide. The company attributed 23 million new users in September alone to Nano Banana, its AI-driven photo generation tool that has quickly become one of the platform’s strongest growth engines.
Google is also in the midst of a major technology transition with the recent launch of Gemini 3, described internally as its most advanced multimodal model to date. Analysts view the release as one of the company’s most assertive competitive moves, particularly as Gemini 3 is embedded directly into Google Search from the outset. This integration allows users to access the model through an AI Mode toggle without downloading separate software, marking a significant shift in how Google distributes its AI capabilities.
