India's Hindi news prime time is witnessing fresh changes, with both India TV and News18 India tweaking their evening line-ups in a bid to strengthen audience engagement and reinforce distinct editorial identities.
At India TV, veteran broadcaster Rajat Sharma's flagship show Aaj Ki Baat has shifted to an earlier slot of 8:30 pm from its long-standing 9 pm position. The move marks one of the most notable changes to the channel's prime-time schedule in recent years and places Sharma in a more competitive window of the evening news cycle.
Meanwhile, News18 India has introduced a structured three-show prime-time line-up built around its marquee anchors and differentiated formats.
The evening begins with Aar Paar at 7:50 pm, hosted by Amish Devgan, whose debate-driven format continues to focus on the day's biggest political and national issues. This is followed by Sau Baat Ki Ek Baat at 8:50 pm, where Kishore Ajwani brings research-backed analysis and connects developments across politics, governance and public affairs.
From June 16, News18 India will further expand its prime-time offering with the launch of Desh Ki Pathshala at 9:50 pm, hosted by Sushant Sinha. The show aims to focus on explanatory journalism, helping viewers understand the context, causes and implications behind major news developments.
The latest changes highlight an evolving trend in television news. As viewers increasingly seek analysis, explanation and strong editorial viewpoints, channels are moving beyond conventional headline-driven programming and investing in anchor-led formats with clearly defined identities.
Industry observers note that while breaking news remains central to television journalism, audience loyalty is increasingly being built around trusted personalities and distinctive presentation styles. The reshuffling at India TV and the expanded line-up at News18 India reflect how broadcasters are adapting to changing viewer expectations in an intensely competitive prime-time market.
