74.9 million unique viewers tuned in to watch ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2020: BARC

Data also shows that the final match between India and Australia garnered a total of 40.97 million unique viewers

The ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2020 garnered 5.3 billion viewing minutes and reached 74.9 million unique viewers as per the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India data.

The data also reveals that out of 5.3 billion viewing minutes, female audiences contributed to 39% of viewership. The tournament was held in Australia from 21 February until 8 March. Australia won theT20 World Cup, beating India by 85 runs.

Interestingly, the data shows that the final match between Australia and India reached a total of 40.97 million unique viewers and female audiences contributed to 40% of the viewership during the final match.

As per the data, the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 garnered a total 5.3 billion viewing minutes out of which, female audiences contributed to 2.1 billion viewing minutes and 3.3 billion by males in TV+ OOH TV category. Whereas in the same category, the tournament had a total reach of 74.9 million in which female and male audiences contributed 32.2 million and 42.6 million reach respectively.

The series in its final leg registered 1.88 billion viewing minutes with 0.8 billion viewing minutes from females and 1.1 billion viewing minutes from male audience. The final match recorded a reach of 40.97 million with 17.3 million reach coming from female and 23.7 million reach from male audiences.

As per the ICC press statement on the viewership figures, Australia’s opening game against India became the second most-watched women’s match in Australia with a combined average audience of 448,000 across Fox Sports and the Nine Network. Whilst in India, the official broadcaster Star Sports telecast India matches in five languages including English, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada and Telugu, the same game saw a reach of 20 million and an average audience of 3.55 million which is 39% higher than the most-watched match at the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 2018 edition.

ICC said in a statement that the first 12 matches of the tournament registered 2.46 billion viewing minutes in India versus 787 million viewing minutes for the same matches in the 2018 event. this represents a 213% increase in the country.
