Channel placement will be determined as per genre and language categories under the designated buckets R1, R2, R3, G1, and G2.

The latest round of auctions took place on October 29, 2025 and the interested broadcasters were required to submit their applications by October 27.

The auction was open to private satellite television channels possessing valid license and permissions from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB).

Foreign broadcasters could also take part with permission from the MIB

Prasar Bharati, which oversees the DD Free Dish platform, reiterated the need for precision in applications.

It had emphasized that broadcasters must submit “clear and unambiguous proof” of their channel’s genre and language.

Any inconsistency or unclear classification would render an application ineligible for consideration.
