Renowned Hindi short story writer Awadhesh Preet died of a heart attack in Patna on Wednesday. He was 65. News of his death has sent shockwaves through the literary and journalistic worlds.

Awadhesh Preet was originally from Taraon village in the Ghazipur district of Uttar Pradesh. He was born on January 13, 1958. He completed his higher education at Kumaon University (Uttarakhand) and began his literary and theatrical career in Udham Singh Nagar.

He was considered one of the leading voices of Hindi fiction. His best-known works include "Ashok Rajpath," "Humzameen," "Hashtekshep," and "Kohar Mein Kandil," among many others. His writings focused on social reality and human sensibilities.

In addition to literature, Avdhesh Preet was also involved in journalism and was known for encouraging new writers. His colleagues remember him as an honest, simple-minded, and guiding figure.

Many prominent figures, including senior journalist and Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh, have remembered and paid tribute to Awadhesh Preet. In his condolence message on a social media platform, Harivansh Narayan Singh wrote, "We have received the sad news of the passing of Awadhesh Preet, a senior journalist and renowned storyteller from Bihar. His untimely passing is a great loss to both literature and journalism. Awadhesh's friendly personality and sensitive writing in simple language will always be remembered. Humble tributes to him."
