US President Donald Trump on February 2, 2026, shared the cover of India Today magazine’s “Newsmakers of the Year 2025” edition on his social media platform, Truth Social, drawing global attention to the image featuring him alongside Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The cover, headlined “The Mover & The Shaker,” highlights the two leaders as defining global figures of the year.
Trump reposted the magazine cover without adding any caption or comment. The post, however, quickly gained traction across social media platforms and news circles, given its timing and the high-profile figures featured on the cover.
Shortly after Trump shared the cover, Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted a detailed message on X (formerly Twitter), confirming that he had spoken with the US President earlier in the day. In his post, Modi said he was “delighted” by Trump’s announcement that tariffs on Made in India products would be reduced by 18 per cent, calling it a significant development for bilateral trade.
“Wonderful to speak with my dear friend President Trump today. Delighted that Made in India products will now have a reduced tariff of 18%,” Modi wrote, thanking Trump on behalf of India’s 1.4 billion people for what he described as a “wonderful announcement.”
The Prime Minister further underlined the broader significance of the move, stating that when two large economies and the world’s largest democracies work together, it benefits people on both sides and unlocks opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation. Modi also praised Trump’s leadership, calling it vital for global peace, stability and prosperity, and said India fully supports his efforts for peace. He added that he looked forward to working closely with Trump to take the India-US partnership to “unprecedented heights.”
Trade experts note that an 18 per cent tariff cut could offer relief to sectors such as manufacturing, consumer goods and industrial exports, which have faced pricing pressure due to existing duties.
The India Today magazine cover shared by Trump is part of the publication’s annual Newsmakers edition, which recognises individuals who shaped political, economic and global developments during the year. The visual portrayal of Trump and Modi together, coupled with the timing of the tariff announcement, has amplified the cover’s relevance beyond its original publication.
