Prime Focus Limited has strengthened its global animation business with the acquisition of a 48.45% stake in Spain-based animation firm Ánima Kitchent Canarias, S.L. The investment was made through its indirect subsidiary Double Negative Films Limited (DNFL), which paid approximately Rs 13.70 crore in cash for the stake. The transaction was completed on 26 June 2026, the company said.
The media and entertainment technology company stated that the acquisition is aimed at expanding its presence in Spain’s animation production sector and accessing new international markets. The deal also provides access to a partnership with SETT (Sociedad Española para la Transformación Tecnológica), a Spanish government fund that has committed up to €24.9 million in investment in Ánima Kitchent Canarias under a public-private partnership model.
The company clarified that the transaction does not fall under related-party arrangements. It added that all required regulatory and governmental approvals, where applicable, have been obtained or will be secured.
Founded in 2014, Ánima Kitchent Canarias is a Spanish animation studio known for producing and distributing 2D and 3D animated content. Its portfolio includes popular children’s brands such as Cuquín, Lea & Pop, Titto Lizzardo, Tippi T-Rex, and PINY Institute of New York.
The company reported a turnover of Rs 92 crore in FY25, with a net profit of Rs 11 crore and net worth of Rs 68 crore. Its turnover stood at Rs 65 crore in FY24 and Rs 59 crore in FY23.
Prime Focus said the acquisition is expected to enhance its global animation capabilities and strengthen its presence in Europe, particularly in Spain’s growing animation market.
