As he marks his birthday today, Arvind Bhandari’s professional journey offers a clear view of what sustained leadership looks like in the consumer and industrial landscape. With over 25 years of experience spanning sales, marketing and general management, his career has been defined by scale, mobility and consistent delivery across markets in Asia, Africa and Europe.

Currently serving as Chairman and Managing Director of The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company in India, based in Gurugram, Bhandari stepped into the role in January 2025. His appointment came at a time when the automotive and tyre sector is navigating a complex mix of demand shifts, supply chain pressures and evolving consumer expectations. His mandate is straightforward but significant: drive operational efficiency, strengthen market positioning and build long-term growth.

Before joining Goodyear India, Bhandari was Managing Director of Nestlé Eastern Africa, where he oversaw business operations across a diverse and high-potential region. His tenure in Nairobi reflected his ability to manage complexity across markets with varying consumer dynamics, infrastructure challenges and growth trajectories.

His association with Nestlé spans more than a decade and a half, during which he held several leadership roles across geographies. As Global Head of Wyeth Nutrition at Nestlé SA in Switzerland, he was responsible for steering a critical global portfolio, focusing on growth, innovation and brand consolidation. Prior to that, as Executive Vice President and Director of the Nutrition business for South Asia, he led one of the company’s most strategic segments in a competitive and rapidly evolving market.

Earlier, as Senior Vice President for Nestlé South Asia, Bhandari had independent charge of the dairy business across India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. This role required not just operational leadership but also long-term strategic planning. He worked on consolidating established categories such as dairy whiteners and milk, while evaluating new opportunities in adjacent segments. His responsibilities cut across functions, including marketing, R&D, supply chain and finance, reflecting a fully integrated leadership approach.

His international exposure was further shaped during his time as Business Executive Manager for Nestlé South Africa, where he led the food business across South Africa, Namibia and Botswana. He drove portfolio expansion, strengthened manufacturing capabilities and executed competitive strategies to gain market share, delivering consistent double-digit growth.

Bhandari’s early career laid the foundation for this trajectory. From managing brands like Maggi at Nestlé India to his stint at PepsiCo’s Frito Lay, and earlier roles at JWT and ITC Limited, he built a strong grounding in brand building, consumer insight and sales execution. These experiences across advertising, FMCG and frontline sales have informed his ability to operate across both strategic and execution layers.

Beyond corporate leadership, Arvind Bhandari has also established himself as a prolific author. His books, including Pragmarketism, Mahavir, Inverted, I Wish I and Brandvantage, reflect a consistent engagement with ideas around leadership, philosophy, marketing and personal growth. His writing extends his professional thinking into a broader intellectual space, making his work relevant not just to business practitioners but also to those interested in decision-making and self-development.

What stands out across Arvind Bhandari’s journey is the range of contexts he has operated in and the consistency of his roles at the intersection of growth and transformation. From emerging markets in Africa to global leadership positions in Europe and strategic roles in India, his career reflects both adaptability and depth.

As Goodyear India looks to expand its footprint and strengthen its position in a competitive industry, Bhandari’s experience across categories and geographies places him in a position to influence both strategy and execution. On his birthday, his career serves as a reminder that leadership, when built over time and across diverse environments, becomes less about titles and more about the ability to navigate change and deliver outcomes.
