The Lucknow Super Giants vs Kolkata Knight Riders fixture in IPL 2026 turned into a dramatic contest that went down to the final delivery. Chasing a target of 182 at Eden Gardens, LSG secured a three-wicket win, pulling off the chase in the closing moments after appearing out of the game for much of the innings.

KKR had the upper hand for a large part of the second innings, especially after reducing LSG to 128/7. However, the closing overs shifted the momentum entirely, setting up a finish that quickly became one of the most discussed matches of the season.

Mukul Choudhary: Player of the Match

The 21-year-old wicketkeeper-batter from Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan, walked in at No. 7 with the game almost gone.

Coming in when LSG were reeling at 104 for 5, Choudhary smashed seven sixes and two fours in a fearless display of power-hitting. In the final over alone, with 14 needed, he hit two sixes and sealed the win. With over 50 runs required in the final few overs and limited wickets in hand, the innings reshaped the trajectory of the game.

He single-handedly dragged his team from a near-impossible position, bringing the equation down to manageable runs in the final overs and sealing the win with calm precision on the last ball.

In a post, shared by LSG after their win, showed head coach Justin Langer saying that he will turn Mukul into the scariest No. 6 or No. 7 batter in India.

After the match, LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka shared a heartwarming moment with Mukul, where he embraced him and kissed him on his forehead. Goenka also engaged in a lengthy conversation with Mukul acknowledging his performance.

LSG picked him up at the IPL 2026 mini-auction for Rs 2.6 crore, nearly nine times his base price of Rs 30 lakh, beating out interest from Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals.

Users called “Mukul Choudhary a real talent,” while others wrote, “the way langer said, my god! pure goosebumps. Remember the name-mukul choudhary.” Several comments highlighted the turnaround, with reactions like “the match was gone until that knock” and “unbelievable composure.”

Finn Allen Catch Controversy

Before any of the drama in the chase, the match had already generated its first controversy. In the second over of KKR’s innings, Finn Allen miscued a Prince Yadav delivery and the ball flew to the third man boundary where LSG spinner Digvesh Rathi completed the catch.

The umpires ruled Allen out for 9 off 8 balls without referring the decision to the third umpire for a detailed check.

Slo-mo replay footage circulated widely. The controversy reignited long-standing discussions about boundary catch decisions and the use of technology in IPL matches.

Users wrote, “Umpire should check the boundary... it's worst Umpiring” and “Finn Allen is Robbed.” Another user said, “Were #KKR robbed of 6 runs? Was Finn Allen Given OUT In a Rush??”

Ajinkya Rahane’s Bat-Slip Six

Another light-hearted but highly shareable moment came from KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane. While attempting a big shot off Avesh Khan, Rahane’s bat slipped out of his hands mid-swing and flew dramatically through the air. Remarkably, the ball still cleared the boundary for a six.

The moment drew instant comparisons to similar incidents involving Rishabh Pant.

The clip, brought humour, with users joking that he “doesn’t even need the bat to hit sixes.”

KKR had earlier put up a competitive total of 181/4, building momentum through their innings and maintaining control during the middle overs of LSG’s chase.

However, the final phase of the game saw a rapid shift, with boundaries and aggressive shot-making altering the outcome. The LSG vs KKR fixture ultimately stood out not just for the outcome, but for the number of moments it generated.
