Senior journalist Vinita Yadav's investigative book, "Wife Swapping in Rural India," based on the sensitive and shocking social network of "wife swapping" active in rural India for the past two decades, was released at the World Book Fair. The book was released by former Chief Justice of India, Justice K.G. Balakrishnan.

At the book launch, Vinita Yadav explained that she first uncovered this story during her field reporting nearly 20 years ago. At that time, the practice was limited in scope, but today, the network is more organized, technologically active, and socially hidden.

According to Vinita Yadav, those involved in practices like wife-swapping in rural areas are still active and connected through WhatsApp groups, Facebook, and private digital networks. Technology has strengthened these networks, while society remains silent on the issue.

He clarified that the book is not based on sensationalism or rumours, but on long-term investigative journalism, firsthand experience, and facts on the ground. The book raises the question of how such practices continue to thrive silently when society espouses tradition and culture.

Writing the foreword and launching the book, former Chief Justice K.G. Balakrishnan said that the book reveals a face of Indian society that is often obscured. He added that such books are not meant to be read, but rather to be understood and questioned.

The book launch event was attended by a large number of readers, journalists, and social activists. The message that emerged clearly was that behind the idealized and sacred notion of rural India lies many unspoken and unseen truths.

According to Vineeta Yadav, 'Wife Swapping in Rural India' is not just a book, but a document against the social silence, which is still considered uncomfortable to break.
