Songs, Sports and Statistics – a look at Airtel in 2010
Airtel has released its year-end data which shows how its network has been used for music, video and images, along with other relevant data like the total SMS traffic. In all, 225 million songs and 25 million images were downloaded in one year.
In keeping with the trend of offering a roundup to show how their services are being used, Airtel, too, recently released information on the analysis of music, images, video downloads and total data traffic. Diwali saw 1.2 billion SMSes out of a total of 90 billion SMSes sent through the entire year, the highest traffic on any single day, ahead of last year’s leader, New Year.
Also, the immensely popular song from the movie ‘Dabaang’, ‘Munni badnam hui’, was the most downloaded song out of a total of 225 million songs downloaded throughout the year. While it might have edged out recent competitor ‘Sheila’ from ‘Tees Maar Khan’, the most downloaded pictures of a female celebrity were of Katrina Kaif. Salman Khan was the most downloaded male celebrity. In one year, 25 million images and wallpapers were downloaded, which shows that download of music is far ahead right now.

Movies and sports still represent the biggest use of value added services, a proposition which could change in the course of the coming year as new services enter the market, but for now, the trinity of Astro, Bollywood and Cricket remains the most important part.
Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, Sania Mirza, Katrina Kaif, Kareena Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Ranbir Kapoor were the people whose presence dominated Airtel’s mobile data usage, which might be a distressing trend for those who are trying to do something new in the VAS market.
