Snapchat and Instagram remove Giphy stickers over racist GIF

Giphy is a new addition to both the social media platforms. Instagram added the feature in January and Snapchat only just partnered with Giphy in February.

Snapchat and Instagram have temporarily removed their Giphy GIF sticker features after users saw a racist GIF as an option to add to their photographs. A Snap Inc. spokesperson was quoted as saying,"We are very sorry. This GIF should have never appeared in Snapchat. Our team has worked with Giphy to have the GIF removed and it should no longer appear."
A similar racist GIF was spotted in Facebook-owned Instagram indicating that Giphy is at fault, according to TechCrunch. "This type of content has no place on Instagram. We have stopped our integration with Giphy as they investigate the issue," an Instagram spokesperson was quoted as saying by TechCrunch.
Giphy is a very new addition to both social media platforms. Instagram added the feature in January and Snapchat only just partnered with Giphy in February, so in the latter case it wasn't even available for a full month before it was disabled.

When Snapchat and Instagram introduced Giphy stickers for Stories, they expected to offer PG-rated GIFs that even their young patrons can use. However, both platforms have disabled the feature after users discovered an extremely racist GIF that says "N---- Crime Death Counter -- Keep Cranking Bonzo, the Numbers Just Keep on Climbing!" among Giphy's offerings.
Speaking to TechCrunch, Snapchat said it removed Giphy after it heard about the problem. "As soon as we were made aware, we removed the GIF and have disabled Giphy until we can be sure that this won’t happen again while we wait for Giphy’s team to take a look at it," Snapchat said.
