A Public Interest Litigation has been filed in the Supreme Court with regards to setting up an autonomous body to monitor and regulate content and videos on OTT platforms.

The PIL has sought for the Centre to be directed to set up the body, while referring to the latest Netflix series 'IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack'.

The PIL says that a regulatory mechanism will be able to address issues related to OTT content that is based on real-life incidents.

The PIL further states that this body will work on the lines of the Central Board of Film Certification under the Cinematograph Act.

The petition also talks about the body being headed by a secretary-level IAS officer with members from sectors like the film industry, cinematography, media, defence, legal experts and academicians.

Meanwhile, news agency ANI has sued Netflix and producers of the series using its content without the required permission.

According to ANI's counsel, the makers of the series have used archival footage without licence.
