Meta has announced that all financial advertisements on Facebook and Instagram must now undergo mandatory SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India) verification. The move is aimed at curbing misleading financial promotions and protecting retail investors from unregulated financial influencers—commonly referred to as “finfluencers.”

Under new guidelines, any investment promotional content—whether about mutual funds, stock advice, trading courses or real-money gaming—will only be allowed once the advertiser’s SEBI-registered email and mobile number have been updated in SEBI’s intermediary portal. These details must be verified by Meta before ads can go live.

Meta's new rules will come into effect on July 31, 2025, with the verification process being introduced gradually. The rollout began on June 26, and by July 28, 2025, Meta expects the verification tools to be accessible to all eligible advertisers globally. Advertisers will have at least one month to complete the verification process from the date they become eligible.

By collaborating with platforms like Meta and Google, SEBI aims to ensure that only verified and accountable financial entities can advertise, reducing the spread of misleading advice and boosting investor confidence.
