Digital Review D-CODE: 13 Industry Leaders to Discuss the State of Digital in India

Organised by The Ad Club, the review will be held on August 1, 2018, 5.30 pm onwards at Taj Lands End, Mumbai

Over the last 10 years Indian brands have grown to first experiment with and now completely without uncertainty embrace digital as a medium for marketing and brand communication. The medium that makes up for around 15 per cent of the total ad pie in India is on its way to stake claim to nearly one-third of the total ad pie by 2020, according to the Dentsu Aegis Network e4m Digital Report 2018.

The evolution of this medium has taught marketers, agencies, digital publishers, many lessons along the way. For the first time, representatives of the entire digital marketing ecosystem will come together to share their learnings and main takeaways from the journey so far. Organised by The Ad Club, the event entitled Digital Review: D-CODE will see 13 industry leaders give the audience a 10-minute lowdown on their impressions of digital in India, from great work to advice.
One of the speakers at the event, Anupriya Acharya, CEO, Publicis Media, said that knowledge-sharing events like these are crucial for any industry. “Within our industry digital marketing has come of age and is no longer a peripheral topic. More importantly, it is a field that is evolving very fast and hence there is always more to learn and imbibe from other practitioners.”

Siddharth Banerjee, Executive Vice President – Marketing, Vodafone India Limited, another speaker at the event also felt that an industry body organising such a knowledge sharing forum is beneficial for the industry. He said, “A forum like D Code will make an impact because it is able to get the right people together to have the right conversations around Marketing in a Digital World.”

The Indian digital ecosystem is grappling with multiple challenges. The review will hopefully facilitate finding solutions to the problems. Sapna Chadha, Head of Marketing, Google Southeast Asia and India, will also share her thoughts and advice with the audience on Wednesday. She said that the challenges that need to be addressed in the Indian digital marketing are, "uniformity in measurement and establishing a common currency is key to deriving the highest value from the medium. Creative capability in a mobile first world is another area where we need to work as an industry to create centres of excellence.”

Banerjee hopes that forums like these can help the marketing fraternity to come together and “build more shared understanding on three areas – Using Data for Personalization at Scale; Building Mindsets & Enablers; and Driving Measurement.”

Acharya echoed similar sentiments. A key pain point that she would want addressed by the community is to understand the new data protection and privacy regulations and how to implement them. She added that there is also a need to find the right technologies and measurements that should be used to solve a business problem. “There is also a lot of conversation and confusion around data measurement in particular,” she said. And therefore she would want a deep understanding of that area. And finally, Acharya said that it would be good to draw a better understanding of how to leverage the various digital platforms that are continuously evolving and the new platforms that are providing new ad solutions to brands.

Other stalwarts speaking at the review are: Agnello Dias, Chairman & Co-Founder, Taproot Dentsu; Ajit Mohan, CEO, Hotstar; Anuradha Aggarwal, CMO, Marico; Arun Iyer, Chairman & CCO, Lowe Lintas; Juhi Kalia, Head of Creative Shop - India & Indonesia, Facebook; Rahul Johri, CEO, BCCI; Ravi Desai, Marketing Director, Amazon; Sam Singh, CEO - South Asia, GroupM; Sapna Chadha, Marketing Director - India & SEA, Google; Shoumyan Biswas, Vice President, Marketing, Flipkart, and Tanmay Bhat, Co-Founder, AIB.
The review will be held on August 1, 2018, 5.30 pm onwards at Taj Lands End, Mumbai.
